For almost a century, our 5 & 10 store in the heart of Western New York has been a beacon of smiles and laughter in our community.

And even amid all the chaos going on around us, our shop shines even brighter, with not only our quirky catalog of over 75,000 nostalgic, whimsical items—but a shiny, new award.

With a grateful heart, we want to extend our sincerest thank you’s not only to the US Small Business Administration for recently declaring us winner of the 2020 Buffalo District Family-Owned Small Business of The Year, but also to Kate Welshofer and the rest of the WGRZ Channel 2 team for their lovely video segment featuring us as the Most Buffalo Story of the Day.

(If you haven’t seen it yet, you can catch it again here.)

As we are confronted with a seemingly somber crisis, we want our story and rich history to help give you hope for the coming days. From humble beginnings in 1930 - right at the start of the Great Depression - to becoming the community-centered attraction it is today, we are proud of not only surviving, but thriving.

We take pride in being the largest 5 and dime in the world, and we know that it’s not just because of our extensive stock of novelties, but also because of you, our community, our customers! We know that we wouldn’t be where we are today without your support.

So although we would love to celebrate with each and every one of you, we realize that due to the COVID-19 crisis, the timing of this award isn’t exactly ideal—so we want to take the opportunity to let you know that as always, we want the best for you!

If you do decide to come visit us, we assure you that our employees are doing all of the ‘best practices’ that you have seen on TV, on-line and in print: washing our hands with soap and water and using disinfectant frequently; cleaning counters, register areas, credit card terminals, handles and railings regularly; and our public restrooms have soap for hand-washing for all customers.

While we are currently choosing to keep our doors open, our hours are subject to change on short notice. We strongly suggest that you call our store first to confirm before coming out. For now, we are open and will continue our normal operating hours while complying with all village, county, state, and federal policies that are recommended or mandated.

We would love to invite you to come see us for all your novelty needs and help us celebrate our 90th year, and will welcome you with open arms (from at least 6 feet away), but please don’t come out if you feel sick to any degree. The rubber chickens and candy cigarettes will await your return.

And although we don’t offer online sales at this time, we are happy to take your mail orders over the phone. As the COVID-19 situation is changing daily, if not hourly, we will certainly keep you up-to-date on our website and social media about our situation here at Vidler’s.

Although it may seem bleak, we encourage everyone to stick together (while still maintaining appropriate social distancing and hygiene, of course) and most of all, to stay positive!

Even if we can’t put a smile on your face with our “delightful lunacy” in person, we hope that you know your continued support of our family-owned and operated store means everything to us! And if your spirit needs some uplifting, you can always check us out on Vidler’s TV.

Stay safe, and we will see you soon!
