Ah, canning season.

It’s that time of the year when your grandmother used to can her fruits, vegetables, jams, jellies, and pickles.

Surely you remember those extra-sour dill pickles—and those super sweet pickles with a hint of sweet onion and pepper.

Did you ever spoon out fresh, cold apple butter onto round crackers, or bite into a sweet, cinnamon-infused apple pie—made with deliciously canned apples from the tree up the driveway?

Canning season is a wonderful season. And here at Vidler’s, we’re stocked up on a range of canning supplies that you definitely won’t want to miss.

Best of all, whether you’re a seasoned pro from the old days, or someone new to the craft, it doesn’t matter.

We’ve got you covered on the ‘goods’ you’ll need to can some ‘goodies’ of your own!

Whether you’re looking to get started with a few jars, or need the ‘mother-load’ to get situated for that busy canning weekend, we’ve got ‘em - but they won’t last long!

What Canning Supplies Do I Need?

What supplies are needed for canning those all-important vegetables, jams, jellies, pickles, and more?

That’s a good question!

You’re going to need jars, lids, and rims to get started. You’re also going to need some spices.

You’re also going to need at least one large pot (preferably two).

Oh, and a kitchen timer doesn’t hurt anything either!

And of course, you’re going to need fruits and/or vegetables to can (unless you plan to can your sense of humor. We’ve never had much luck with that, though.)

What Canning Supplies Do We Have At Vidler’s?

We’ve got a pretty decent haul of canning goods this year, including some of the mainstay staples of the craft.

Here’s just a little sampling of what we have:

Different-Sized Jars And Lids

You’re going to need some jars and lids. We’ve got all the proper sizes, with lids* to match.

*WARNING: Vidlers is currently out of lids*

We’ve got Anchor Hocking canning jars, Ball Mason jars, and carry sizes ranging from small to half-gallon!

Don’t worry if your cucumbers are the size of bazookas this year. We’ve got the gear to get you going!

We also have Ball wide-mouth lids and bands.

Canning Guides

Need some guidance to get you on the road to canning successfully? We’ve also got the Ball Blue Book Guide To Preserving

It contains over 500 recipes to make your canning season a massive success!

Pickling Spices

You can’t make pickles without pickle spices.

And that’s another thing we got a load of here at Vidler’s.

We’ve got several different types of Ball pickle mixes, including:

  • Mixed Pickling Spice
  • Kosher Dill Pickle Mix
  • Bread & Butter Pickle Mix

We even have fiesta salsa mix!

Come on in and grab the types that appeal to you.

Seals

You’re going to need some seals to secure those lids.

And no, glue won’t cut it.

Neither will liquid nails (don’t ask us why we’re mentioning this. You don’t want to know).

Besides, if you don’t seal your jars properly, your ancestors might return as ghosts and wallup you with a wooden spoon.

Also, your food might not preserve properly.

We’ve got Reliable Seals, both in regular and wide jar sizes.

So make sure to pick up some of those.

Accessories

You’re going to need some accessories to make it all work.

Thankfully, we’ve got all kinds!

What Stores Sell Canning Supplies?

You can find canning supplies at most major retail outlet stores.

You know, those amazing brand-new buildings built on acres of cold concrete and tacky tile!

And as a free bonus, you can also enjoy long slow-moving lines, cashiers that wish they were somewhere else, and the same products you can get from any other store.

Or, you can come on down to Vidler’s and let us take care of you!

Hey, we may be a little silly, but at least we’ll smile and be genuinely glad to see you!

It’s First Come, First Serve This Season

We’ve got the canning gear to get your canning operation up and into full swing.

But be advised, this might be it for the season.

And it’s going to be first-come, first serve.

So make sure to come on down and grab it while it’s hot (don’t actually grab it while it’s hot. We’ve got oven mitts if you need them!).

And perhaps most importantly...

Happy canning season from your friends down here at Vidler’s.

We hope to see you soon!
